Stutteri Ask and Blue Hors – Strength Passed On
For decades, Stutteri Ask and Blue Hors have each established themselves as frontrunners in Danish breeding and sport. In both dressage and show jumping, the two studs are among the most recognized – with exceptional stallions and horses that have achieved top international results at the highest level in both disciplines. Although the studs have focused on different disciplines and been based in different locations, they have long been connected by a shared owner and a common ambition: to elevate Danish equestrian sport and horse breeding to the highest international level.

In 2024, this connection became truly tangible when Blue Hors was united with Stutteri Ask in Martofte, Funen. The merger marked a new era, where both dressage and show jumping activities were brought together physically – a strategic step toward a more focused and future-proof setup.
From Vision to Reality
The story of both studs began with the shared passion for horses of Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen and Poul Erik Fugmann.
In the late 1980s, the dream of combining sport and breeding began to take shape. On the grounds of Schelenborg, Stutteri Ask emerged, where the show jumping stallion Racing Ask became the starting point of a long line of sporting and breeding successes. In 1992, the foundation for the stud’s future was firmly established with the purchase of the legendary Casir Ask – a stallion who would later be named Elite Stallion, S Stallion, and Stallion of the Year.
Around the same time, the idea of Blue Hors came to life. Originating from a tack shop in Vejle, the ambition was to improve Danish dressage breeding through the import of top European stallions. The dressage center quickly became a key player in both breeding and sport – with Olympic participants such as Blue Hors Cavan and Blue Hors Don Schufro, Danish Championship victories, and medals at both World and Olympic Games. More recently, Blue Hors Zack and Blue Hors Don Olymbrio have distinguished themselves among the world’s leading stallions.
The Merger on Funen

In the autumn of 2023, the Kirk Kristiansen family announced that from 2024, Blue Hors would be merged with Stutteri Ask on Funen. The decision was part of a generational transition and a desire for a simpler and more focused setup with dressage sport and breeding at its core.
During the first half of 2024, activities were gradually moved from Randbøl to Martofte, where Blue Hors now shares facilities with Stutteri Ask. While the two studs continue to maintain their individual professional focus – dressage and show jumping – they now share a common setting, and the synergies between them are being realized more effectively than ever before.
The Future: One Shared Strength
With the merger, Martofte became home to one of Europe’s most ambitious ventures in equestrian breeding and sport. Stutteri Ask continues at the same high level of activity, both as a stallion station and as organizer of major jumping competitions, with Søren Møller Rohde as head rider. Blue Hors maintains its clear ambition of belonging to the international dressage elite, with national team rider Nanna Merrald as head rider.
By uniting the activities under one roof, a stronger and more focused foundation for the future was created – with the same clear vision that has always driven both Stutteri Ask and Blue Hors.
